Iraq’s Ministry of Agriculture has discussed avenues for scientific cooperation with China to advance Iraq’s agricultural sector.
During a meeting between Eng. Munir Ali Kreidi, Director General of the Agricultural Guidance and Training Department, and the Deputy Director General of the Chinese company “Green Agriculture“, participants explored ways to transfer Chinese research and experience into Iraq’s agricultural environment. A representative from the Al-Aghsan Foundation for Agricultural and Environmental Development also attended the meeting.
The Chinese side presented its advanced experience in protected crop cultivation-such as tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplants-implemented in various countries. The company expressed its readiness to apply these practices in Iraq to support rural communities and promote sustainable agricultural development.
Eng. Kreidi affirmed Iraq’s commitment to adopting modern methods, including smart irrigation, agricultural mechanisation, and satellite-based remote sensing technologies. These innovations are expected to address challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, and soil salinity, while improving productivity, achieving self-sufficiency, and strengthening national food security.
